Today was a big day at BMS! Our 3D printer made its first print, and we are super excited. A seventh grader's first question: "Can I print a model of DNA with that? I want to create the individual parts and have them snap together." How cool is that? A couple of 8th grade students spent part of their lunch in the library lab learning to use Google SketchUp so they can create their own 3D designs. One of the students, realizing that the size of the print bed impacted the size of his design, quickly found the measuring tape in SketchUp to make sure that his specs were indeed printable. Talk about real-world application of math skills! We can't wait to see what our students design. A great big thank you to Mr. Ceyl McDonald for assembling our printer, making our first print, and talking "3D" to students and teachers alike!
