A great BIG thank you to Ms. Kromer! She has put in hours and hours of work sorting and labeling books for the Bulldog Mobile. We're all ready for our first trip on June 17. Details at http://banderamiddleschoollibrary.weebly.com/summer-learning-2015.html By Ms. Bagwell Seventy-seven 8th grade students travelled from BMS to the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio on Wednesday, May 20. After two intense sessions led by experts covering both the history of the Holocaust and the culture of the time period, the students were honored to hear Mrs. Susanne Jalnos share her story of survival and courage. Mrs. Jalnos was an amazing speaker, and after gifting the students without her experience, she graciously offered hugs and a chance for students to take selfies with her. by Ms. Smallwood
Our 6th grade STEM class ventured to the Science Mill in Johnson City to learn more about how science, technology, engineering, and math create work fields that impact our world today! Upon arrival the students set up their own personal avatar that would give them more information about the exhibits throughout the mill. The students were then given a quick tour of all the exhibits they would be able to interact with upon their free exploration (30 exhibits present)! Popular exhibits included the Fractal (the beauty of math combined with art), Mind-ball (students controlled a ball using their brainwaves), Race Car Build Challenge, Global Air Traffic Control, and Topography. The students also participated in a team building activity in a group of four to take on three different task to help justify how scientist and engineers work on a daily basis. The students enjoyed their lunches at the mill and continued more exploration until they finished up the day watching a 3-D movie over Space Junk! The students saved their favorite exhibits using their avatars and took an augmented reality picture with their avatar to end their journey! A special thanks goes out to Mr. Tosh for supporting this program and finding funds to allow our students this great experience! I would also like to thank Ms. Moseley and Ms. Allison for going with us as chaperons! Thanks to the parents for all your support this year with the beginning to this program! I have been proud of all the students accomplishments throughout the year and looking forward to see what the future holds for them all! |
