Bandera alumnus Laura Allen spoke last week to a group of eighth grade students about her career as a Mary Kay consultant and the benefits of self-employment.
Mrs. Bane's and Mrs. Kromer's sixth grade mathematicians worked hard to earn 500,000 points completing Think Through Math lessons, and their hard work paid off! Not only did they hone their math skills, but they also earned $50 toward a classroom party sponsored by WalMart. Congratulations!
Although school will be out in just over eight days, learning is still happening in our classes. Getting to class on time is important. Don't forget our tardy policy.
The Bandera ISD Student Handbook (page 56) TARDIES A student who reports to school or a class after the tardy bell has rung is tardy. Each campus will have their set of tardy rules to follow. Please refer to the appropriate campus for their specific procedures. Excessive tardies will be reviewed and ruled on by the administrator and or attendance committee. BMS Tardy Policy Students with two or more tardies may be issued consequences ranging from Lunch Detention, After-School Detention, In-School Detention, and In-School Suspension. 1st / 2nd = Teacher Discretion 3rd = Administrative Lunch Detention in the In-School Suspension Room 4th / 5th = Administrative In-School Detention during Elective Classes / After School Detention with Administration until 4:30 PM. 6th or More = Administrative Intervention/Disciplinary Consequences The Bandera Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted new members this week. Thirty-five seventh and eighth graders pledged to honor the ideals set forth by NJHS. The current NJHS honored faculty member Dixie Moseley with the Order of the Rose, a recognition of a community member who exemplifies the ideals of NJHS and goes above and beyond in service to the community. Ms. Kathleen Allison is the NJHS sponsor. The Bulldogs got a surprise treat this morning when the Spurs Coyote visited the No Place for Hate assembly. Mrs. Anderson and one of her student aides contacted the Spurs earlier this year to secure the visit, and they kept the secret under wraps until the big reveal this morning. What a great treat! Congratulations to the Bully Busters for their awesome dance to "Happy" and to the BMS Choir for their performance of "With a Little Help from My Friends."
Sixth graders attended Soil and Water Conservation Day at Mansfield Park earlier this month. The students rotated through eight stations including a station on beekeeping, a station with game wardens, and a station that focused on the amount of land necessary to sustain livestock in the Hill Country. The students played games to learn about the relationships between predators and prey. They learned about how birds of prey hunt, and they even got a chance to see a bald eagle up close. What a great learning experience!
The BMS Choir's trip to San Antonio and Fiesta Texas was a resounding success! The 6th grade choir and Concert Choir got superior ratings at the contest, and the Men's choir received Excellent ratings. Mr. Laine and Mrs. Holmes are extremely proud of all of all the choirs, Special kudos to the Men's choir who performed so well with only four members! Congratulations!
On Thursday, May 15, the Bandera Middle School Choirs gave their final performances of the year. To recognize the 50th year anniversary of the Beatles American debut on the Ed Sullivan TV Show, the choirs performed a tribute to the Beatles in a concert entitled “A Beatles Invasion.” about Elizabethan England. Coach Garza's 7th grade ELA students are acquiring some awesome research skills while exploring the culture, history, architecture, philosophy, and science of the time. They're learning to navigate Google Drive to create their presentations and using EasyBib to document their sources. This group of students is really stepping up to the challenge of this assignment, working diligently to accurately paraphrase information and document citations. Way to go, 7th grade writers!
So proud of our 8th grade student! She won the Blue Ribbon poster contest for Child Abuse Prevention month sponsored by Bandera County Agrilife Extension Agency, placing first for grades 6-8. The subject of the poster was "What makes a Blue Ribbon Family?" The certificate will officially be presented to her at the No Place for Hate assembly on May 22nd.
A great big thank you to our awesome cafeteria manager, Irene Whitefield, who donated a sewing machine to the library Makerspace. Mrs. Groff can't wait to get the students started on sewing up some new pillows for the Book Nook. Thanks, Miss Irene!
