Morgan Ayers from the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District challenged teams of BMS students to build the most efficient aquifer model. The students used sponges, sand, pebbles, and small rocks to construct their aquifers, and then they poured in soil-laden water to see which aquifer purified the water the best. Thanks, Ms. Ayers, for helping us to see science in action. Thanks to a grant from the BISD Education Foundation, thirty-seven BMS students participated in a career exploration tour to the Toyota Manufacturing Plant and the Dos Rios Water Recycling Plant. Careers observed included those in the fields of engineering, robotics, education, public relations, advertising, art, welding, electronics, archiving/museum, physical therapy, environmental science, fire fighting, biology, and governmental affairs. Thanks, BISD Education Foundation, for allowing us to see where what we are learning fits into our future careers! We played the piano with bananas as keys...and we learned to use aluminum foil wristbands to expand our circuit to more than one person, so we can make music with friends. Makey Makey is fun! The BMS Library has two Makey Makey kits. Stop by to explore electrical circuits using the computer and every day objects. Yesterday, we connected the Makey Makey board to the Mac, drew a game controller on a piece of paper, and used the homemade controller to play PacMan. Today, we're going to try using fruit to make our own keyboard to play the piano in GarageBand. Yep! Science is fun!
BMS Builder's Club is supporting the Teens for Jeans campaign to provide blue jeans for homeless youth. From now until February10, students can bring gently used jeans to the BMS Library and receive a $5 coupon to Aeropostale. For more information about Teens for Jeans, click here.
