BMS counselor, Cynthia Anderson, retired on February 27. Thank you, Mrs. Anderson, for your years of sevice to BISD students.
Author Lisa Schroeder is going to Skype with a group of BMS students on Wednesday, March 4. Ms. Schroeder writes YA books including two verse novels that are heavily circulated at BMS: I Heart You, You Haunt Me and Chasing Brooklyn. During the Skype, she is going to talk about reading, writing, and she will also read an excerpt from one of her novels. Then students will have an opportunity to ask her questions. How cool is that! BMS will host our spring Scholastic Book Fair the week after Spring Break, March 16- March 20. Shop our Book Fair online HERE. If you are searching for a title that isn't shipped to our school, check out the online fair, and the books will be shipped to your house.
Thanks to a traveling trunk borrowed from Gettysburg National Park, the BMS Library was transformed into an interactive Civil War Museum this week. Eighth grade students spent three days rotating through seven stations to explore photographs, medical equipment, poetry, pastimes, uniforms, slang, and accouterments related to the Civil War. They created artifacts to document their learning using ChatterKids, PicCollage, and the video camera on the iPads. They uploaded their artifacts and reflected on their learning in Google Classroom on the Chromebooks. Along the way they competed against each other in Kahoot!, created a KWL chart using the video camera/green screen and sticky notes. Stay tuned for a sampling of student work! Thanks, Ms. Bagwell and Mrs. Lonsberry, for all your hard work!
