Physical education students are getting in the Christmas spirit by having a Christmas Tree relay. The class divided into teams. Students hopped over the course with a football below their knees and carried one item over to their "tree". Once all items were placed on the tree, the "tree" walked back to the starting line, carrying all times.
The BMS choirs made a decision to pay it forward by sending some care packages to troops overseas for the holidays. They made a DVD of all the different choirs singing different Christmas songs, as well as messages of "Happy Holidays" and "Thank you for your service" that were placed in each box. In addition, they collected donations from the choir parents, organizations and different stores in Bandera and surrounding areas. They also wrote letters to professional basketball, baseball and football teams for items that could be put in the boxes to help remind the troops of home. The choir ended up with enough items to fill up 40 boxes to be shipped overseas to places such as Kuwait.
7th graders will take the STAAR Writing test in the spring, and today they saw first hand that punctuation DOES matter. "Let's eat, Grandma." and "Let's eat Grandma" have two very different meanings! Misplaced or absent punctuation matters just as much in computer language as it does in English.
Bandera Middle School kicked off its Hour of Code celebration Tuesday when Mr. Edwards' 7th grade classes experimented with JavaScript on the Hour of Code website by building a Star Wars game, moving Minecraft characters, and helping Elsa make snowflakes in Frozen. If the block of code (a combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation marks) was not correct, the action on the screen wasn't correct either. Students had a great day determining if they have an affinity for computer language, which, in turn, will help them determine which endorsement to pursue when they register for their high school classes. To top off the day, 2008 BHS graduate Michael Groff, who works for Rackspace in San Antonio, spoke to Mr. Terrill's technology class about careers in technology and worked with students during our after school Tinker Tuesday program. The BMS Hour of Code celebration will continue with the STEM classes on Thursday, the 8th grade on Friday, and the 6th grade on Monday. |
