Teen Read Week is just around the corner and that means our annual Book Blind Date! Get ready! Mrs. Kromer has been scouring the shelves for some awesome reads: sci fi, fantasy, twisted fairy tales, sports, mysteries, first books in forgotten series, and much, much more. Participating is easy. Just pick a book, unwrap it, check it out, read it, take the AR test before 10/31/14, and you'll get an invitation to a fun "book-y" gathering in the library on Halloween. Students who've read Always, Abigail will be invited to Skype with author Nancy J. Cavanaugh during advisory on 10/15. Check out the cool posters our own BMS students and teachers created to advertise Teen Read Week. |

As part of our International Dot Day Celebration, BMS made its mark on the world by swapping student-made trading cards with a school in Houma, LA. We sent our cards off last Thursday and are anxiously awaiting the cards sent from Houma. Salem, MassachusettsThis morning about 30 of our 8th graders participated in a mystery Skype with a K-8 school in Salem, Massachusetts. The students played 20 Questions to try to guess the location of the other school. With atlases in hand at both locations, the students asked awesome questions like "Was your state one of the original thirteen colonies?" and "Are you in the Central Time Zone?" After successfully determining locations, the students shared the dots they made and how they intended to make their mark on the world. So proud of our Bulldogs!
A super big thank you to Ms. Bagwell and Mrs. Lonsberry for all they did to support Dot Day and to help make the Skype a success! The Environmental Science classes of BMS teacher Michael Lenz will begin a recycling program on the middle school campus this year. These classes are a new addition to the curriculum at the middle school this year. “Coach Lenz’s Environmental Science class has started a recycling program to help both the school and community as well as the environment,” said a student.
Students in Mr. Laine's and Mrs. Holmes' choir classes celebrate music with the voices AND their artistic abilities.
2. International Dot Day has turned into Dot Week!3. Mrs. Groff got her Made With Code bracelet in the mail this morning.About a month ago, Mrs. Groff visited the Made With Code website and designed a bracelet using computer code. The "I Read" bracelet, printed on a 3-D printer from the code she generated, was delivered today. (Cost-free). Gotta love that! Celebrating books, creativity, and geekyness all in one day!
