During this trip participants were able to view a changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery and to visit the WWII Memorial. At the WWII Memorial, the veterans were honored with a Color Guard from the "Old Guard" of the Military District of Washington. They also visited the Marine Corps Iwo Jima, Vietnam War, Korean War, Lincoln, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division Memorials, the Navy Museum and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
The honor to the veterans continued when they arrived back at San Antonio International Airport and walked through a throng of 300 folks waving flags and waiting just to greet and thank them for their service. Members of all branches of the military were there to shake the hands of all the returning veterans. There were ladies present who had made quilts for each of the veterans. The only Marine veteran on the trip is the grandfather of former BMS student, Marshall Patton. Marshall gave a welcome speech for his grandfather. What a memorable trip for all involved.
