Community support for our makerspace has been awesome. We've gotten yarn, supplies, and even a sewing machine donated. Our current needs include embroidery hoops, more bands for the Rainbow Loom, and more plastic cording...so, if you have any sitting unused, the library will gladly help you free up some storage space by taking those supplies off your hands.
Public and school libraries all over the country are creating makerspaces, and BMS library is excited about Makerspace May. This month students are learning some new skills to take home for summer: weaving plastic cord lanyards, making Rainbow Loom bracelets, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, braiding and beading, sewing, folding origami, learning new games, and more. Yep. The library is a busy, busy place! (Sshh. Don't tell the kids, but following diagrams to learn to use the loom, reading patterns and directions, and following video tutorials are opportunities to practice literacy skills!) Learning is fun!
