BMS is the recipient of a $500 grant thanks to Mini Mart #2 at 377 HWY 16. Mini Mart nominated Bandera Middle School for the Exxon Mobile Educational Alliance grant to boost studies in math and science. A great big Bulldog thank you to Mini Mart, Mrs. Fritz, and Exxon for their support of BMS students.
Twenty-eight BMS students who are interested in careers in the health care industry visited the University of Texas Health Science Center today. According to Mr. Tosh, "It was a great trip! I am so proud of our Bulldogs. They were fantastic! They asked great questions, were very well mannered, and represented BISD honorably. They had an opportunity to play some focus/team building games, and then to sit in the doctor's seat by pretending their lab partner had a broken forearm (ulna or radius) and cast their partner. Then they played the patient while their partner created their own forearm cast. All in all it was a fantastic day!"
Miss Chambers class built organic molecules out of marshmallows and toothpicks. The molecule being built in the pictures is a carbohydrate, or a simple sugar.
Students in Mrs. Gherman's sixth grade science classes conducted lab investigations while working on connecting volume, mass, density and surface area to discover how to make things that have a greater density than water float .
A great big Bulldog thank you to Morgen Ayers of the Bandera River Authority and Groundwater District for her educational presentation on aquifers and the importance of protecting our water resources.
According to the Khan Academy, Bernoulli's Principle is the "inverse relationship between the pressure and speed at a point in a fluid....At points along a horizontal streamline, higher pressure regions have lower fluid speed and lower pressure regions have higher fluid speed." Ms. Allison's STEM students explored Bernoulli's principle in class using every day objects like soda cans, balloons, balls, and even Cheetos!
Join Morgen Ayers from the Bandera County River Authority & Groundwater District for Science in Action next Wednesday, September 21, during advisory in the library. You will design and build an aquifer and learn about our water resources.
Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Elrod's class recently recreated the water cycle in plastic baggies. They also celebrated Earth Day by making paper from recycled paper, marigold seeds, and water. When the homemade paper dries, they'll be able to cut out a shape to give to a loved one. When the paper is planted, marigolds will sprout. Science is fun!
