Mr. Alpert, a journalist and contributing editor at Scientific American, shared his process for moving his initial idea into three action-packed books involving six terminally ill teenagers who trade their bodies for machines to battle an artificial intelligence program. He encouraged students to read widely and to read a lot, to be persistent in pursuing their passions, and to be disciplined in their approach to attaining their goals.
