Mr. Edward's seventh grade classes participated in a book tasting today. On the menu were two science fiction books, four historical fiction books, two realistic fiction books, and two fantasy books. Students scored their interest in each book after viewing a book trailer and reading the first few pages of each title. The best part? Most students walked away with several titles they want to read and some ideas for making their own book trailers. What a great way to celebrate International Book Day!
If you heard yelling and cheering coming from the sixth grade hallway the last couple of days, chances are good that the noise was coming from Ms. Smallwood's STEM class. The students were engaged in heavy competition to use their excellent geometry skills to create a maze that would foil their classmates in their attempt to drive a Sphero through it at the fastest speed. The students rose to the challenge! They constructed mazes that contained hidden obstacles intended to slow down the competition. Not only did the students master their geometry terms, but they also mastered the art of collaboration. Well done!
Today was a big day for one of our 8th graders. Driven by a desire to achieve a personal goal, this motivated young man read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, a whopping 1,386 page novel. Not only did he finish the book, he managed to keep the details of the complicated story with over six hundred characters straight, allowing him to make 90% on his AR test. Way to show that Bulldog drive for excellence. Mrs. Elrod's 8th grade student aides designed a pass for her class using SketchUp and printed it on the 3D printer. Great perseverance and ingenuity!
