Here are the upcoming dates for Tinker Tuesday. Due to scheduling conflicts, Tinker Tuesday will be held only once a month starting in January. Plan to stay after school to explore circuitry, sewing, coding, crafting, art, Lego, K'Nex and straw construction, 3D design, and more.

Our annual Book Blind Date celebration kicked off Monday. Participating is easy! Select a wrapped book, check it out, read it, take the AR test by February 10, and earn an invitation to a celebration in the library on 2/14/17. Join the fun!
BMS students in grades 6-8 celebrated Computer Science Week with an #HourOfCode through their science classes. Texas hosted 3661 of the 162,727 events worldwide. In addition to exploring computer science as a possible career and applying the scientific method to completing coding tasks, students used two coding languages, Blockly and JavaScript, to program games on the code.org website.
The library's Sphero Sprk arrived on Monday, just in time for students to learn to program our new spherical robot. 8th graders interested in pursuing computer science as a career can apply to attend the career exploration field trip to Rackspace on 1/20/17. Twenty 8th graders may attend. Applications will be available in January. by Coach Cunningham
Last night our BMS Lady Bulldog basketball teams traveled to Kerrville to take on the Lady Spikes. Last night our BMS Lady Bulldogs took on the Medina Valley Panthers. Our 7th Grade Lady Bulldog B Team lost to Medina Valley 28-7 but fought hard all four quarters. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Raelynn Butler with 4 points, Dorothy Magee with 2 points, and Abby Jones with a free throw. The 7th Grade A team played a tough game but also fell short losing 25-12. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Chelsey Graves with 4 points, with Maci Morrison and Katie Dibrell scoring 3 points each, and Avery Ouellette putting up 2 points. Our 8th Grade Lady Bulldog B Team lost to Medina Valley 39-5.Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Sam Reyna and Sara Halsey with 2, and Brianna King with a free throw. The Lady Bulldog 8th Grade A Team also fell to the Panthers 44-26. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Breanna Stimmell with 7 points and Araya Mendiola with 6 points. All four teams fought hard this week. The Lady Bulldogs will be traveling to Kerrville on Monday, B Team games start at 5:00pm and A Team games at 6:00pm. Hope to see you there! Bandera Middle School attended the 29th annual District 28 - 4A Middle School One Act Play competition in Fredericksburg on 12/3/16. They performed the play "Rest in Peace" by Pat Cook, directed by Mrs. Spikes. BMS received the first place award for the third time in four years!
The cast and crew also received several individual awards: Best Tech - Havana Auguirre Honorary All Star Cast Savanna Foster All Star Cast- Kelly Columbia and Colton White Best Actor Award - Dylan Ortiz. Thursday the BMS Lady Bulldog basketball teams took on the Hondo Owls. Our 7th grade B team won a close one with a score of 15-14. Lady Bulldog top two scorers were Hailey Robertson with 8 points and Brianna Herman with 3. Great Job Lady Bulldogs! The 7th grade A team lost a heartbreaker by a 3 pointer with 5 seconds left in the game. The Lady Bulldogs fell short (15-12) but fought hard till the end! Maci Morrison was the leading scorer with 4, while Stella Brown, Kate Guajardo, Shaely Rogers, and Chelsey Graves each contributed 2 points. The Lady Bulldog 8th grade B team lost to the Hondo Owls 52-14. Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Sara Halsey with 7 points and Alexis Isbell with 5 points. 8th grade Lady Bulldog A team upset the Lady Owls winning 38-25. Top scorers for our Lady Bulldogs were Samantha Kennedy with 12 points and Araya Mendiola with 9. Great job Lady Bulldogs! The Lady Bulldogs will take on Medina Valley here at home next Thursday! Come on out and cheer these ladies on to victory! Next week BMS students will join millions of students and teachers in over 180 countries in celebrating an Hour of Code. Students will explore how the scientific method is integral to the coding process as they build a Star Wars galaxy or create a Minecraft game using the computer language Blockly. Coding can be a fun family activity, too. Check out the Angry Birds, Frozen, and Moana coding activities!
Thank you, Ms. Ayers of the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District, for a great two-day workshop to build and test riparian systems. Students worked in groups to plan and construct a riparian system to best control flood waters to keep trash out of a river. See a video HERE. The next Science in Action program will be in March. |
