Three teams advanced to today's final round after a nail-biting run-off yesterday afternoon between two sixth grade teams. They were tied for 3rd place at the end of Round 2 and tied in the tie breaking round, triggering a second tie breaking round. The Bookitiers won 3rd place by a single point.
The 8th grade team came back this year to win the championship round with the 6th and 7th grade teams finishing closely behind them. The BMS Library has already received copies of the 2018 Lone Star Reading List titles. Ten will be chosen for next year's competition which will kick off in October during Teen Read Week. Battle of the Books Round 2 turned into quite the competition with the Dragons coming in 1st, the Tiny Librarians 2nd, and a tie for 3rd between the Rising Storm and Three Bookitiers. A tie-breaking round will be held during 8th period today to determine which team advances to tomorrow's final round, which will occur during a school assembly during advisory.
The 2018 Battle of the Books kicked off Tuesday. Seven teams composed of three students each committed in October to read ten titles from the 2017 Lone Star Reading list. Round 1 of the competition was a 30 question Google Form quiz that team members completed individually. Two teams were eliminated. Round 2 Wednesday is a contest of speed and accuracy sorting quotes, characters, events, etc. from the ten books. Two more teams will be eliminated. Round 3 is a relay race that will take place during an advisory school assembly on Thursday. The winners of the Battle of the Books will earn a fun-filled full-day Staycation in the library in May. The runner-up team will earn a half-day Staycation.
Congratulations to all the teams for their commitment to reading, their dedication to achieving a long-term goal, and their willingness to work with others to accomplish a task. BMS readers received an awesome bonus at the spring Scholastic Book Fair. Students earned the equivalent of ten cents per AR point and redeemed those points for free books.
