Students in Mrs. Frierson's ELA classes are collaborating on a research project with Mrs. McWhorter's and Ms. Brosz's fifth grade classes at Alkek Elementary. The students began their study today by reading Pink and Say by Patricia Polacco in a video conference with teachers on both campuses taking turns sharing the story with the students. The students will collaborate in Google Classroom on their research of Andersonville prison. Later the students will write letters and dramas pulling details from their research. The study will culminate with another video conference where the students will share exemplary pieces of their writing.
In preparation for writing their how-to papers, the 8th grade completed a marshmallow challenge in the library. Teams were given ten minutes, spaghetti, string, tape, and a marshmallow and tasked with building the tallest free standing structure. Great teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving! By Ms. Bagwell Seventy-seven 8th grade students travelled from BMS to the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio on Wednesday, May 20. After two intense sessions led by experts covering both the history of the Holocaust and the culture of the time period, the students were honored to hear Mrs. Susanne Jalnos share her story of survival and courage. Mrs. Jalnos was an amazing speaker, and after gifting the students without her experience, she graciously offered hugs and a chance for students to take selfies with her. Two sixth graders used their awesome imagination and design skills to make game pieces for an ELA project. Look at how they used SketchUp to turn a pencil sketch into a three-dimensional reality. Nearly ninety students qualified to attend the annual AR Reward Field Trip at The Farm. They had a full day of swimming, games, a hay ride, and great food. A great big thank you to the parents who chaperoned. April is National Poetry Month, and Mrs. Frierson's class wrote poems with "magnet-less" magnetic poetry.
Ms. Bagwell's and Mrs. Lonsberry's students spent Wednesday and Thursday in the library sampling a delicious menu of eighteen books related to World War II. |
